CENS Technical Seminar Series

Urban Sensing as Experience Infrastructure

Invited Speaker: Jeff Burke
Date: August 21, 2009
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Venue: Boelter Hall 4760

Abstract

This talk explores the possible applications of urban sensing technology (in its various incarnations) to highly designed physical environments, such as those found in themed entertainment, hybrid physical/virtual simulations, large-scale live performance, and even modern city streets themselves. A combination of mobile handset and fixed sensing can enhance many phases of development including site survey, design, operation, and maintenance, as well as playing a direct role in enabling visitor participation, interaction, and expression within such environments. A set of key technical challenges and research questions will be identified and briefly discussed.
