Data Management

Education Research > Data Management

Overview

The data management component of CENS resides within the education efforts. As the data management needs of CENS are better understood, these efforts are expanding beyond education, but will continue to form a key bridge between education and science efforts within the Center.

The data management component has established these initiatives:

  1. Advance our understanding of the intersections between education, cyberinfrastructure, and digital libraries.
  2. Identify methods to preserve the integrity and accessibility of data that are crucial to CENS researchers, scientists, and educators.
  3. Educate individuals about ENS data, data management practices, and the implications of data management for science and education.

The target audiences of these initiatives remain unchanged since last year's report. These audiences include: grade 6-12 science students and teachers; undergraduate and graduate students; CENS researchers, educators, scientists, and staff; and external constituents. With the opportunity to make such a broad impact, CENS has created active and successful collaborations with several area schools (LAUSD) for the purpose of using CENS technologies in middle and high school science education, and with the UCLA Center for Academic and Research Excellence (CARE) and the Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) program for the purpose of engaging under-represented minority undergraduates in engineering and physical sciences research.

Objectives

Information & Data Management

  1. Make CENS data useful and usable for grade 6-12 inquiry learning.
  2. Make CENS data useful and usable by scientific community.
